Bali is among the best places for a family holiday in Indonesia as it has a wide range of child-friendly accommodation and excellent tourist facilities making travelling with youngsters more manageable. Kuta is the most developed resort on the island, with some excellent beachfront family hotels such as the Hard Rock Hotel Bali, which features water slides, rock climbing, cooking, dancing and arts and crafts to keep children amused at all times. For a less full-on option, try the peaceful Bali Garden Beach Resort with a kids' pool by the beach and family rooms large enough for six. Kuta also boasts child-friendly eateries, the Waterbom water park and a range of watersports from the white sandy beach.

For a more low-key place to stay, Sanur has a quiet promenade that runs the length of its golden sands and is backed by unimposing international hotels. The gentle clear waters, protected by an outer reef, are calm enough for children to paddle and swim safely. The Griya Santrain Resort is a very popular family option in the area, while the luxurious Bali Hyatt Hotel features interconnecting rooms and a kids club.

The upmarket resort of Seminyak, rising beside a wide and beautiful sandy beach, is another great spot for families, though its hotels tend to be on the high-end, more expensive side. There is a bevy of restaurants and boutique shops here, as well as a clutch of superb family hotels. W Retreat and Spa Bali has large villas and interesting daily kids activities, with a swimming pool right beside the beach.
